Product Details

Fenistil is a medicinal product with anti-allergic effect, used to relieve itching and irritation associated with rash. Fenistil is also used for runny nose and watery eyes, which accompany allergic rhinitis.

Composition Fenistil (1 mg/ml)

The active substance is: dimethindene maleate (Dimetindeni maleas).

1 ml of drop contains 1 mg of dimethindene maleate.

Excipients: propylene glycol, benzoic acid, disodium edetate, disodium phosphate denohydrate, citric acid monohydrate, saccharin sodium, purified water.

Dosage of Fenistil (1 mg/ml)

Always use this medicine exactly as described in the package leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you.

Medicine for oral use.

Adults and children over 12 years: 20-40 drops 3 times a day. In patients with a tendency to sleepiness, 40 drops should be taken before bedtime and 20 drops in the morning, during breakfast.

Children under the age of 12: 2 drops per kg of body weight per day, in 3 doses, e.g.:

6 drops 3 times a day for an 8-month-old infant weighing 9 kg

8 drops 3 times a day for a 2-year-old child weighing 12 kg.

Action of Fenistil, (1 mg/ml), oral drops

Fenistil contains dimethindene maleate, which has an antihistamine effect, i.e. it inhibits the action of histamine, which is responsible for allergic reactions. Fenistil relieves itching and allergy symptoms, reduces oedema.

Indications

Symptomatic treatment of allergic diseases:

Skin: urticaria, itching in the course of atopic dermatitis, allergic contact eczema, endogenous eczema,

Respiratory system: seasonal (hay fever) and allergic rhinitis.

The product is used in the symptomatic treatment of food and drug allergies, as well as: it relieves itching associated with infectious diseases (e.g. pox).

It can be used to relieve symptoms after insect bites and to prevent allergic reactions that occur during desensitising treatment.

Contraindications

Do not use Fenistil:

In case of hypersensitivity to the active substance or any of the other ingredients of this medicine,

Newborns up to the first month, especially prematurely born.

Undesirable effects

Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

Very common side effects (affects 1 or more in 10 people):

Tiredness

Common side effects (affects 1 to 10 in 100 people):

Drowsiness, nervousness.

Rare side effects (affects 1 to 10 users in 10,000):

Arousal,

Pains and dizziness,

Gastrointestinal complaints, nausea,

Dry mouth and throat.

Very rare side effects (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people):

Difficulty breathing or swallowing,

Swelling of the face, mouth, tongue, throat,

Severe skin itching,

Muscle spasms.

Warnings and precautions

Discuss the use of the drug with your doctor if you have: glaucoma, urinary retention, epilepsy.

The effect of alcohol can be intensified by Fenistil.

Fenistil should be stored at a temperature below 25 ̊C. Keep the bottle in the package.

Keep the medicine out of sight and reach of children.

Use of other medicines

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking, have recently taken or might take any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.

Fenistil may interact with:

Antidepressants,

Bronchodilators, drugs used in abdominal spasmodics, pupil dilatory drugs,

Sleeping pills and tranquillizers,

Anticonvulsants,

Opioid analgesics,

Antihistamines,

Antiemetic drugs,

Scopolamine.

Use of the drug with food and drink

Fenistil potentiates the effect of alcohol.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

In the case of pregnant or breastfeeding women, consult a doctor before using the drug.

This medicine should not be used in breast-feeding women.

Use of the drug in children and adolescents

The drug is contraindicated in newborns up to the age of the first month, especially prematurely born.

The use of Fenistil in infants from 1 month to 1 year of age and in children under 6 years of age should be carried out on the recommendation of a doctor.

Driving and operating machinery

Fenistil can worsen psychophysical performance. Be careful when driving or other activities that require focussing.
